Fall Car Care Tips
Fall Car Care Tips in York, PA
Summer is almost over, and we’re ready for cooler days and changing leaves. While your car’s maintenance may not be at the top of your list, there are a few ways you can prepare for the changing season. Make sure your car is ready for those crisp fall mornings by following these four tips below!
Top 4 Fall Tips
1. Tire Tread and Pressure
In cold weather, tires can lose one pound of pressure for every 10-degree Fahrenheit drop. Refer to the owner’s manual for the correct tire pressure. If your vehicle has summer tires, it’s a good idea to invest in all-season tires. To check your tire’s tread, you can test them with one penny. Place a penny into the tread grooves, and if all of Lincoln’s head is showing, your treads are below the recommended 2/32” of tread depth (according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). Time for new tires!
Because cold weather can wear down your car’s battery, fall is the perfect time to make sure your battery is performing well before winter sets in. Check the battery connections and ensure they’re tight, clean and free of corrosion. In addition, run a battery test. If your car’s battery is over three years old, it might be time for a new one.
3. Heating and Cooling
Check your car’s heating and cooling systems, not just for driver and passenger comfort, but for safety reasons too. For example, the heating system is crucial when you need to defrost the windows in winter.
With fewer daylight hours, you’ll need to use your lights more frequently. Make sure all your lights are all working, including your brake lights. Replace any burnt out bulbs as soon possible.
